After what’s felt like an eternity in the writers' universe, I’ve finally got round to typing up some more of my fantasy novel!
I do look back at my crime novel occasionally and intend to delve back into it, however I feel I’ve set myself up for a difficult road ahead by writing some of the end, then the beginning, before filling in some of the middle before scattering around again. My brain can’t keep up with my thoughts which seem to come from someplace else.
The joy and frustration of it all has been my thoughts scattered across various notebooks and my Scrivener draft, losing track as I try to keep up with the story telling itself in my mind. Yet the beauty of writing it all down is that it acts as a second draft. Typing up sees me adding or editing something as I go, as I have the chance to review my brain splat which may have missed some rules of this new world I’ve created, which is slowly coming to life.
Sometimes all it takes is a change of scenery and a slice of sunshine. Like now, I’m typing up these thoughts that I wrote whilst at my family’s new Yorkshire home, hence the delay – although I’m soon going to run out of the ‘moving house’ excuse!
I’ve also been enjoying Paige Toon’s Commercial Fiction Writing course. I’m finding it quite inspirational and motivating. It’s so spooky that just months ago I was wondering if she or any of my other favourite authors would release any writing courses…
Let’s see how my crime novel check-in fares up next time…
